Explore the powerful visual language of the Soviet-inspired propaganda posters shown here at Hertford House during the Second World War and create your own hand-printed posters in this two-day workshop.
Take inspiration from the bold colours, dynamic compositions and striking graphic forms that defined Soviet imagery in our current display, The Wallace Collection at War, and create your own designs using linocut and mono screenprint techniques.
About the tutor: Adam Hogarth is a London-based artist and Lecturer in Fine Art at the Medway School of Art. Working across disciplines but firmly rooted in printmaking, he uses etching and screenprint to explore themes of politics, community, commercialisation and auto-destruction. His work combines sharp social commentary with humour, hope and a fascination with human language, often drawing on art history and popular culture to create works that are both thought-provoking and visually striking.
Joining Information and Format: For ages 18+. This masterclass will take place in the Learning Studio, Lower Ground Floor. We recommend participants bring a packed lunch. When walking through the museum, food must be packed away in a bag and liquids carried in a sealed bottle, flask or travel mug.
